If you’re looking to escape the northern hemisphere winter, Mozambique in January is a warm and balmy retreat that makes for a fantastic family summer holiday. Easily accessible from Johannesburg or Nelspruit airports, Mozambique is a short flight to nirvana. Turquoise blue waters surround lush islands with unspoiled white beaches. Lovers of the sea will satisfy all the senses; especially that of taste. Freshly caught seafood is delivered on a daily basis and finds itself presented in utmost elegance at your table at mealtimes. Fishing enthusiasts and amateurs or first-timers alike will love the thrill of deep-sea fishing in Mozambique; a wide array of sealife awaits you, and the activity is well controlled so as to ensure wildlife preservation.
Whilst in Mozambique, why not hop on a short charter flight and visit Gorongosa National Park located at the southern end of the Great East African Rift Valley in central Mozambique. This understated wildlife conservancy is playing a huge role in ensuring that future generations can also enjoy the beauty of this area and its wildlife. The Restoration Project seeks to rehabilitate the Park and its highly diverse species and rare ecological features. The unique landscape here once supported some of the densest wildlife populations in all of Africa, including carnivores, herbivores and over 500 bird species. But large mammal numbers were reduced by as much as 95% and ecosystems stressed during Mozambique’s many years of civil conflict at the end of the 20th Century. Since 2006 work has begun to reintroduce, in large numbers, bulk grazers such as zebra, wildebeest and buffalo that were responsible for maintaining the Gorongosa ecosystem in the past.
