Malawi & Mauritius Best in Travel Destinations

We believe that 2022 will see families reunited, loved ones catching up after so long apart and much anticipated vacation time being used on once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Lonely Planet recently named the Best in Travel Destinations for 2022, and we are thrilled to see two African gems amongst the Top 10 – Malawi & Mauritius. These destinations are not always what comes to mind first when thinking of holidaying in Africa, which means they are there for you to discover!

Marvelous Malawi

Huntingdon House Satemwa Tea Estate

Did you know there is a Shire River in Malawi? Malawi can sometimes be overshadowed by its larger neighbours like Mozambique and Tanzania. But in the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’, there are similar attractions for which its African cousins are beloved.

Safaris where you can watch elephants, baboons, hippos, and the like in their natural habitats, combine brilliantly with an aquatic safari at the stunning Lake Malawi – the world’s ninth-largest lake. All this at unbeatable value!

WHY MALAWI?

It is Malawi’s remarkable variety of experiences that are its greatest asset. Whilst Lake Malawi dominates the country, it is the mixture of beautiful landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and rich culture that combine to make this small country such a wonderful place to visit.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT MALAWI?

Malawi is a year-round destination with parks and reserves staying open in all seasons. For most people, the dry (winter) season is most attractive (April/May to October/November). The daytime temperatures are generally pleasant (in the 20 degrees Celsius) and the low vegetation and limited availability of water mean that game viewing is at its best.

WHY MAURITIUS?

With its verdant natural beauty, powder-white beaches, and shimmering aquatic appeal, we are not surprised Mauritius in on the Best in Travel list! Which coast to visit? The North is known for beautiful bays and buzzy Gran Baie, the lively hub at the north of the Island.

Watch local fishermen go out to sea in the early morning, Miles of beach to explore and diving is a must, with wild dolphins often seen. The East Coast is perfect to charter a boat and explores the best beaches and clearest waters. The South Coast is rugged and wild, with more authentic fishing villages and waves crashing against volcanic rock cliffs. The West Coast is home to long stretches of beaches and great kite-surfing conditions. On the southwest coast in Le Morne Mountain – an iconic landmark. Hiking here is simply incredible if you can tear yourself away from diving amongst shipwrecks, stand-up paddleboarding at sunset, and snorkeling amongst tropical reefs.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT MAURITIUS?

The island has a classic tropical climate with warm weather year-round. The best time to visit Mauritius is from May to December when the weather is cool, dry, and sunny. Even in winter, from May to October, the temperature drops from hot to balmy, just what you want from a tropical island getaway.
