About Kay

Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Cape Town, Kay lives and works within sight of the iconic Table Mountain. She is a fun-loving people’s person with kids and dogs who all share in her love of adventure. Travel is in her DNA and her upbringing instilled a love of exploring in her, with a host of road trips and camping holidays. She is always open to new experiences and has traveled all over the world from Brazil to Russia, as well as all over Southern and East Africa. She believes tourism brings people together, whether eight hours behind or one hour ahead. She sees trip planning as an opportunity to learn from each other and create memorable life-changing experiences. Her industry passion is as an African luxury travel specialist because in her words: “there’s always a reason to come back for more.” She excels at interest-based and individualised itineraries.

Mirtehof in Prince Albert - The quality of the rooms was exceptionally good, a good 5 star experience. Breakfasts outside on the patio were also of a high standard. Drostdy Hotel in Graaf Reinet - We enjoyed our stay in the suites, which are spacious & well equipped. Samara Game Reserve - the Manor House on an exclusive basis. The Manor house is ‘out of this world’ and this was the highlight of the trip. Rosenhof Country House - What a great property with excellent accommodation & a superb restaurant. highly recommend this place! The experience was outstanding for us and TAS chose really upmarket accommodation establishments for us, which we would never have been able to do on our own. We can highly recommend all the properties chosen and will definitely stay there again.

We were a group with very young kids we felt free to just be without the pressure of other guest’s expectations and considerations. My family and I decided to choose Marataba after not seeing each other for 15 months because of covid. We were looking for something intimate, private and familial with the same standard of a luxury safari. A difficult brief. Kay’s suggestion of Marataba Founders Camp was the most perfect fit. The lodge, which is a family affair, run by a husband and wife team echos the familial feel we were after. Since we were a group with very young kids we felt free to just be without the pressure of other guest’s expectations and considerations. The exquisitely located lodge is beautifully decorated and again feels like a personal home space rather than an impersonal hotel. The food felt effortless and homemade. Everyone’s personal wishes were fulfilled and catered for in a very unpretentious and delicious way. The staff always willing to experiment with vegan and gluten-free options. The gluten-free folk vouch for its deliciousness too. Our tracker treated the kids in such a fatherly way, always keeping them engaged and top of mind. And the added offer of conservation activities really makes the safari experience more relevant and memorable. My ten-year-old daughter got to track a cheetah with the telemeter and the thrill of finding them was an absolute treat for us all. Any family or group of friends who is looking for a place where they want to call home for a few days while experiencing the luxury and magic of the bush, can’t find a better place to settle on than Marataba Founders Camp.

Hi Kay, The whole trip was absolutely amazing, very well organized & professional, so thank you very much for arranging everything. Your goodie bag came in very handy, especially the glasses, what a great idea! Some feedback: SANBONA: • Whilst we had stayed at the Dwyka camp before, Gondwana Family Lodge was new to us & was excellent • Lovely spacious rooms, I would say 5 star, with a good swimming pool for during the day, which we used • Game rides excellent with a super game ranger, Brenda , who knew her stuff • Whilst it does not compare with the Kruger in terms of game, we saw most of the big 5 and the rides were very relaxing & we learned a lot about the ecology of the area. • Covid protocols were good, with all the staff wearing masks the whole time, temperatures taken before each meal, no staff allowed in the room other than the cleaning person • An added advantage for us ( not good for the lodge financially ) was that we were the only guests for 2 of the days, and another couple for one of the days. So we were looked after extremely well & able to arrange the game drives at times that suited us. Also, very safe from a Covid point of view. • All the meals were extremely good • We would most definably go back & recommend this lodge • All in all, a 5 star experience LA RESIDENCE: • We have stayed in really top hotels around the world, and this boutique hotel is amongst the best • Again, we were the only guests there, so you can imagine the service & pampering that we received • It was an unbelievable experience Thanks so much once again.

Kay, Thank you again for your patient assistance all along and for the special picnic treat! Due to the rain we had it on our stoep. And it was so plentiful, we had it as our lunches. All the meals, in terms of menu, quality, service and setting were excellent. But the highlight was the tours: I totally fell in love with history again! The guides were all excellent, well trained, passionate and well equipped to deal with questions. And they made us as comfortable as possible too in terms of cold water on hand and camp chairs to sit on and other refreshments. I highly recommend the Battlefield tours to anyone. In fact, I think it is essential! The staff was friendly at the lodges we stayed. They see themselves as a foodie destination and we were really indulged and spoilt in this regard. They have an extensive wine cellar which you are taken to prior to each meal to select your wine. The menu of the day is on a blackboard and one of the staff members comes to chat to tell you about all the locally sourced produce and has a general chat with you about the farm and the area and the excursions. We had a really lovely stay.

The accommodation in Cape Town, Shamwari Game Reserve and Durban was fantastic with great food and locations. Our drivers were all good - safe and courteous. Dominic as our guide around Cape Town was a really good choice. He had some really good knowledge and interesting information, he was always friendly and flexible with our itinerary. He took us to some nice wineries which were hidden gems. Thank you for arranging the bag of goodies upon our arrival, I used everything including the driving goggles for the safari. The packing list was helpful and the itinerary booklet was beautiful. Thanks for all the pre-flight information and your attention to detail. I enjoyed the trip very much and was very impressed with its organization and execution. I think particular mention must be given to the chefs on Rovos Rail who interviewed me right at the beginning of the trip. The food was spectacularly and consistently good and being gluten intolerant was no problem. So often when I eat out I am treated as an inconvenience and have to put up with lack of choice; not on Rovos! Having travelled first class on the Norwegian Epic I can confirm that the Rovos food was substantially better. The staff on Rovos were also more than willing to assist [my 84-year-old mother]. The organisation of the wheelchair at Victoria Falls was very well carried out and allowed her to see the view just as well as anyone else. This trip was on my mother’s bucket list and Timeless Africa took all the effort of planning off my shoulders.

Our experience with TAS was seamless from start to finish. Your commitment, patience and expertise made our trip one to remember. From the very early planning stages, to the execution, to your visit at our hotel; we would be sure to recommend TAS to all of our friends and family in the future. The Mount Nelson Hotel was beautiful and exactly what we were looking for. Lion Sands, specifically River Lodge, was perfect. It was our favorite part of the trip. Hi Kay, My first comment is that you were incredibly helpful and attentive, and I really appreciated that. I also knew that if I had any problem at all, I could turn to you. The Shepherd Tree Lodge was great. The room was beautiful and the views magnificent. The staff was extremely courteous. The Safari was great. We saw cheetahs on the first outing, which is apparently pretty rare, and then a lot of the other animals you would expect to see, but as someone who has never done that before, it was quite exciting. We even saw a lion on my last drive. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The transfer to and from the lodge was excellent also. The driver gave me the TAS bag with all the information and the extra goodies, which was a nice way to start out the trip.

Dear Kay, Thank you for helping us plan such a wonderful trip. We loved the trip! We definitely plan on returning to Cape Town because there was so much to do there, we could have spent weeks visiting Cape Town! We especially loved our day trip with Zakkie, who was a truly phenomenal tour guide, and we will never forget him or his humor! We especially loved the food, wine, and culture in Cape Town. And the Cape Grace hotel was a magical place to stay while exploring the city. We had a great time at our safari as well. Motswari was phenomenal, but the best part was definitely the people. Hi Kay, We had a wonderful few days in Namibia and realize that we should have spent at least another week! We didn’t realize how very ‘low season’ this time of the year was...and it did make a difference in that we really were two of very few guests at both the lodges we visited. In particular, the ‘Private Camp’ at Wolwedans. Nevertheless, the staff we met were welcoming and helpful. It is admirable that this camp is providing training opportunities and education for local students. All our arrangements worked smoothly and we enjoyed the time spent with our 2 guides and the staff at Wolwedans ‘Private Camp’. What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy putting the components together to create an experience for guests to enjoy and I love receiving their positive feedback.

What is your favourite African travel destination?

South Africa as it is such a diverse country with so much to offer that, even with all my trips, I feel I have only discovered a small portion.

What is your most memorable wildlife sighting?

Seeing a baby antelope being born. The calf would get up and fall down and continue like this for a few minutes before it managed to stand up and walk. It reminded me of the song “I get knocked down but I get up again.” I can’t think of it without smiling.

When did you fall in love with traveling?

My first overseas trip was to Israel. I loved exploring the different cities, experiencing the culture, tasting the local cuisine and meeting the locals. After this trip, I could not wait for my next trip to learn and discover another country.

What is your top African city?

Cape Town – I just love Table Mountain. It provides some calmness especially when I drive to work in the mornings and it is my symbol of home.

What’s the one luxury you can’t do without when traveling?

My pillow – I take it with me wherever I can.
