The plains, rivers and treetops wouldn’t be the same without the Classic 5 that make it quintessentially Africa. Roving herds of millions of black and white striped Zebra and shaggy Wildebeest traverse the wide-open plains of The Serengeti and Masai Mara creating one of the greatest wilderness sightings of our time. From the hilltops you can look over the vast terrain where the herds look like clouds moving across the sky. Only the tall neck of a giraffe breaks the acacia line, as its velvety lips top the trees. Graceful and Jurassic, the giraffe is so aesthetically different, with the same number of vertebra as us but no vocal cords. A still watering hole is transformed when what looked like bubbles, suddenly blows out a burst of air and emerges as a hippo’s head. Lastly, we include the loveable Vervet Monkey, master of mischief. Family groups are fun to watch as they play, prank and forage especially in trees along riverbanks. But watch out, they are also favourite food for lots of predators. These are the quirky characters of Africa.
