“High in the Rwandan hills, my life changed. Visiting the mountain gorillas is an experience that exceeded all my expectations. First we met our passionate guides who are reformed poachers, before trekking through the beautiful forests at the foot of an extinct volcano to reach the quiet glade where the great Silverback was proudly keeping watch on his females, adolescents and young babies. To be that close to such beautiful creatures in their unspoiled environment was something that had a profound effect on me. Standing alongside them and observing them has been one of the highlights of my life. There was an incredible spark of intelligence in the great Silverback’s eyes as he benevolently tolerated our visit – it is by far the best wildlife experience I have been privileged to enjoy.”
