An adventurous person by nature, Marlon has been immersed in Africa and its beauty from a young age. Growing up alongside Kruger National Park exposed him to the wonders of nature and has since crafted his passion for photography. He spends most of his day on safari and witnesses incredible events. Being a field guide allows him a glimpse into the secret lives of some of the most amazing creatures.
Most of the animals are accustomed to the safari jeeps and this allows Marlon to step into the personal space of lions, leopards and so many more. This is simply the first step to capturing an image.
“There is so much more to simply taking a photograph. A story needs to be told. Everything in nature has purpose and reason. Movement beckons the leopard’s attention and his eyes light up, ears cock forward and whiskers stand erect. An elephant calf growing bored notices an oddly shaped rock and after investigating finds it to be most entertaining if used as a ball. Animal behavior is simply that, behavior. It comes instinctive to every organism.
Capturing these incredible creatures in their most intimate of moments takes not only skill, but also passion and understanding. The moment of the “shot” is but for a split second and when the camera’s shutter fires at the right time that moment is forever.
My dream is to open this wonderful world to you the way that I see it, if only for that moment in time.”
